Although Kate’s love of tea was ignited by a single cup of artisan Japanese green tea, it was studying tea and its British history that led her to a remarkable discovery, not to mention inspiration for the company name. During her research, she learnt that her great-great grandfather, George Hockaday, sailed aboard an iconic 19th century tea clipper called the Lahloo.
Clipper ships were built for speed and they raced each other to bring the finest tea from China to London. The first boat back to England was greeted by a carnival atmosphere and it’s this celebration of quality tea and this journey through the senses that Lahloo aims to replicate in its quest to introduce people to ‘real’ tea of the highest quality.
